My Morning Jacket – Evil Urges

“”…My Morning Jacket makes what stands as one of the year”s best rock efforts by embracing classic soul and mixing together a bevy of other unexpected styles and sounds on a platter that”s wide-ranging but impressively focused and wonderfully played. One-time Frank Zappa engineer Joe Chiccarelli helps turn the studio into an uncredited instrument that supports the group”s passionate songwriting and ambitious arrangements.”” – Playback, June 2008

“”You could keep biting your nails, waiting for a Zeppelin reunion tour. Or you can see My Morning Jacket, here and now, make their own Physical Graffiti in your face.”” – Rolling Stone

“”There”s a theme of moral confusion that runs through the whole record,”” says Jim James, frontman of My Morning Jacket, explaining the title of the band”s Grammy-nominated fifth album, Evil Urges. “”The world today is such a confused place. Things that people think are good values are obviously twisted, but there are other things considered evil that obviously aren”t. There is real evil out there, but Evil Urges is about how all of these things that you”ve been told are evil really aren”t, unless they”re actually hurting something or somebody.””

Evil Urges was an album of the year at SPIN and Rolling Stone upon its release in 2008 and subsequent touring led to epic performances at Bonnaroo and on Saturday Night Live. Pressed on cream/black blob vinyl.
